Our Story
Welcome to all curios minds!
Neuro-bites.org is a science communication website dedicated to delivering cutting-edge neuroscience research to general audience in accessible and engaging way. We are proud to be part of the Science Bites network - https://sciencebites.org/ - an international initiative aimed at breaking down complex scientific findings into short, digestible articles. We cover current research topics ranging from brain health and cognition to brain diseases and neurological disorders. Our mission is to bridge the gap between the scientific community and the public by creating free-access content that is both informative and approachable.
Our content is built around three core elements:
Bite-sized Articles: Centered around one chosen publication from official biomedical research journals, these detailed reviews explain the investigated concept and outline the main research findings.
Expert Interviews: Conversations with researchers and professionals in the field of neuroscience, which bring expert insights directly to our audience.
Actionable Brain Health Tips: Practical science-based summaries to help boost and maintain brain health in everyday life.
The Neuro-bites team is committed to promoting public understanding of neuroscience through engaging digital content, public speaking, and community outreach. Our efforts are grounded in the core values of broader Science Bites network, such as tolerance, inclusivity, and anti-racism.
We thank you for being interested in brain health - thriving society starts with all of us! Whether you're a student, a professional, or simply a brain savvy explorer, Neuro-bites offers reliable, easy-to-digest insights into the fascinating world of the human brain—one bite at a time.
Readers are always welcomed and encouraged to reach out. We love hearing from you! We seek meaningful collaborations, public speaking and community outreach opportunities focused on promoting brain health and bridging the gap between scientists and the public. Let’s work together to make neuroscience more accessible, simple and empowering for everyone.
Meet the Team
Alexandra Kifak
is the writer and editor of Neuro-bites "bite-sized" articles and “action steps”, our website designer, social media page manager and the person behind interviews with professionals in the field of neuroscience. Alexandra holds a BSc Honours Degree of Science in Human Health and Disease from Trinity College Dublin. Her passion for understanding human emotions, thoughts, and behaviors led her to specialize in neuroscience by gaining hands-on research experience throughout her academic career. In the summer of 2023, she joined the Chrono Epilepsy Lab at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), where she investigated the genetic component of circadian rhythm in epilepsy and met Tammy. Following this, she completed her final year dissertation at the Trinity Institute of Neuroscience (TCIN), focusing on inflammation in astrocytes cultured from patient-derived stem cells (iPSC). Since graduating in 2024, Alexandra is committed to promoting public understanding of brain health and well-being through scientific communication.
Tammy Strickland
Tammy is undertaking a PhD at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), in association with the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences and the FutureNeuro Research Ireland centre. Her NUI Scholarship and Research Ireland funded project focuses on how cell specific disruptions to the circadian rhythm contribute to the development of acquired epilepsy. She is also heavily engaged in promoting the visibility of women and non-binary people in STEM, is actively involved in national and international science communication efforts and is one of the current co-organisers of Soapbox Science Dublin. She advocates and writes for Crohns and Colitis Ireland, Students with Disabilities (Advisory Group) in Irish higher education and is an active conservation and education volunteer in the Dublin Zoo.
